Ahhh….summer…the countdown is over.  Now 104 more days until they start again!  And a new countdown begins…Well we have plenty of ideas to help you keep your Northville students busy during summer break!  Here are our top 3 picks:

1.       The Northville Garden needs families to adopt the garden for a week during the summer.  It will just be garden maintenance:  weeding checking the fence, watering (depending on the weather).  If you are interested in helping in any way, you can contact one of the following volunteers:

2.      Read, read, read!  Encourage your children to read each day. Visit the library on Day 1 of summer vacation.  Start a book club with some peers of your children, and be sure to join the New Milford’s summer library reading program starting July 6th.

The sooner your children connect reading to pleasure, the easier time they will have reading the rest of their lives!

3.      Summer journaling:  Have your children pick out a special notebook that they will keep as their special journal.  Set a goal, either every night, or once a week for them to sit quietly for 15 minutes and write about all of the things they did during the day or week.  Don’t fuss about spelling or punctuation!  Then pick a special family night to share each others’ writing.

Whatever you do this summer, we wish you a happy and healthy one.  Be sure to join us in the PTO next school year.  We have so many exciting things happening in 2010-2011, including a new Science Cart that will be available to all classrooms at all grade levels.   We will be preparing the science cart over the summer, so think if you would like to become a grade level coordinator or provide expertise to our science cart, please contact Heidi Edel at heidiedel@rocketmail.com.

We’ll see you on August 31st!
